To compile this list, we looked at approximately six different lists of what is hot – and NOT – for weddings in 2017. We carefully selected our favorites and bring you six wedding trends we hope will flourish in 2017 and beyond.
Ice Breaker Activities
Not everyone is a dancer or a witty conversationalist right out of the gate. A few ideas are I Spy, Bingo, Mad Libs, Connect Four, and Scrabble. If its on our grounds, croquet, horseshoes, washers, or cornhole will also keep guests engaged. If you’ll be inside and have a good sense of humor, Cads About Matrimony is a fun game. It can double as a centerpiece too. Cads About Matrimony is based on Cards Against Humanity but is not nearly as risqué.
Removable Skirts for Wedding Gowns
Sure, you can buy a separate dress to wear but if you love your wedding dress, why not make it work for you and avoid the cost of dress #2?
If you have a friend or a professional taking photos, express well beforehand that you don’t want all your photos to be staged.
Here are a few tips for your friends taking photographs. We recommend having a few friends taking photos if you aren’t hiring a professional. Sometimes friends may become distracted or imbibe too much. We’re speaking from personal experience here.
Consider Tossing the Bouquet Toss and Garter Removal
Think about your attitude towards it but also consider some of your guests in long term or serious relationships that may be dreading it. Visualize as all eyes are turned on them, their significant other is looking uncomfortable and other guests are physically trying to get them out there on the floor. That happens.
About garters, who wants to sit there while all of your guests watch your husband creep up your gown to remove your garter? Especially with his teeth? Is this necessary? Hundreds of years ago, there were many superstitions and beliefs surrounding the wedding day. One superstition was that owning a piece of the wedding dress would bring good luck, leading to wedding guests essentially attacking the bride to rip off a piece of her gown.
Props are Tops!
Like games, props provide a source of entertainment during the wedding. Believe it or not, there’s a lot of downtime during the event. If your wedding won’t have a cake cutting, garter toss, dollar dance or bouquet toss – make sure there’s a photo booth or backdrop. People will appreciate the gesture and the memory (printed or digital)
